    Responding to Heatwaves in the Older People Ecosystem

    The project HOPE (Responding to Heatwaves in the Older People Ecosystem) aims to put the severe health threats of heatwaves on the agenda of the older adult service and healthcare sectors and to have an inclusive approach for the whole ecosystem by:

    •  Developing and strengthening competencies of students, informal caregivers, and professionals in older adult health, care and social sectors on better responding to the needs of older adults during heatwaves and thereby better mitigating the risks.
    • Supporting and stimulating organisations in the older adults ecosystem to apply guidelines and best practices regarding care during heatwaves.
    • Supporting local and regional authorities through developed Policy Recommendations on how to play a role in the fight against heat risks for their older inhabitants.
    •  By communicating and disseminating project results and best practices in local, regional, national, European, and international levels.

    HOPE: MOOC for caregivers
    • This online course is specially developed for people who like to learn by reading short texts, watching video clips and answering questions. This tool is meant for those who take care of older people in times of heatwaves, both formal and informal. But also for everyone who wants to know what can be done in times of very high temperatures, how to stay cool, and how to prevent heat stress, this is done in a fast and accessible way.

     This tool is free, and when you finalise it, you can download a certificate, which is also free. To go through this course and answer all questions will take about 30 minutes of your time. In case you have answered a question incorrectly, you will see some feedback immediately with an explanation.

    Should you want to gain more in-depth information about heatwaves, their causes and their consequences, there is a free e-learning that was built with EU support, meant for healthcare and wellbeing professionals:
