Introduction

Welcome to the "Media World Understanding, Reflection, and Critical Thinking" module. Today, we are going to begin a  conscious journey to explore and acquire fundamental knowledge related to the world of media and information.

This module is designed to provide you with the key skills to decipher the complex world of media and information to become a critical and reflective citizen in a rapidly changing digital world.

Learning Objectives:

The primary focus of the module is to promote solid media literacy, giving the essential tools to navigate the complex world of digital media with confidence and awareness. In an era where information is easily accessible, but often distorted or manipulated, people must develop critical skills to evaluate information and participate responsibly in online public debate.

Here are the key objectives we aim to achieve:

  1. Increasing participation in critical debate about news and Internet content: We will inspire a more informed and active generation of individuals who engage in constructive online discussions and contribute positively to public discourse.

  2. Improving the evaluation skills of individuals regarding published information: We will enable adults to recognise fake news and misleading content, promoting critical thinking and their ability to make informed decisions.

  3. Enabling a systematic approach to digital literacy: We will provide a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in media literacy, using tools to meet the challenges in an increasingly digital and complex world.

These objectives are crucial for building a future where information and the ability to critically evaluate media will play a key role in active participation within society and the defence of democratic values.

Think for a moment...
  • How has your understanding of media evolved as technology has advanced, particularly from analog to digital formats?
  • Have you encountered instances where media content influenced your decisions or perceptions without you realizing it? How could media literacy help in such situations?
