Ransomware
Ransomware encrypts data and demands payment, often in Bitcoin, for decryption. Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) allows non-experts to launch attacks, facilitated by the dark web. Paying ransom is discouraged by law enforcement due to no guarantee of data retrieval and funding illegal activities.
The key objectives for this section are to :
- Enhance awareness about the mechanisms and risks associated with ransomware attacks.
- Develop strategies to safeguard systems and data from ransomware infiltration.
- Promote proactive measures such as offline backups to mitigate the impact of ransomware incidents.
Competencies you are developing:
- Cybersecurity awareness and threat intelligence.
- Risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
- Data protection and backup management.
Think for a moment...
- Can you describe a time when you or someone you know experienced a ransomware attack?
- How did you first realize that your computer or system was infected with ransomware?
- What actions did you or your organization take in response to the ransomware attack?
- Did the ransomware attack have any long-term consequences or impact on you or your organization's cybersecurity practices?
