Introduction

Welcome to the "Digital Citizenship learning station" where we will explore topics and concepts which will help you to engage as a digital citizen.  What do we mean when we use the term digital citizen?  A digital citizen is someone who is skilled in using the Internet and other digital technologies effectively, engaging responsibly and ethically in the digital world, respecting the rights and responsibilities of online participation. This definition covers many different areas of digital citizenship which we will explore in this learning station.


  The key objectives for this section are to: 

  1. Identify your rights and responsibilities as a digital citizen and relevant laws that apply when you engage in the online space.
  2. Understand Digital Commerce, which is concerned with buying and selling goods online, and the role it plays in today's world.

  3. Recognise and be able to locate and use tools supporting administrative procedures online.

  4. Utilise tools for learning and/or working online.

  5. Describe the most appropriate physical set-up when using digital technologies and devices

  6. Explain the social and emotional impacts of using technology


Competencies you are developing:

  1. Legal and Ethical Understanding: Understand and adhere to relevant laws and ethical guidelines governing online behavior, including copyright, privacy, and cyberbullying.
  2. Digital Literacy: Demonstrate proficiency in using digital technologies effectively and responsibly, including navigating online platforms, evaluating digital information, and protecting personal data.
  3. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Analyze and assess digital content and situations critically, identify potential risks and challenges, and develop strategies to address them.
  4. Communication Skills: Communicate clearly and respectfully in online interactions, including collaboration, discussion forums, and social media platforms, while understanding the implications of digital communication.
